W+A’s Intern Program: A Traffic Engineering Career Starter

When you have clients with challenging transportation projects, you are always looking out for new talent to join the team. Our transportation engineering and planning team has benefited from interns who have eventually joined our team full time.

Two of our employee-owners come to mind: Kathryn Morrissey and Jake Tufts.

Kathryn M. Morrissey - traffic engineer, Wells + Associates, Manassas officeKathryn Morrissey, EIT is a traffic engineer based in our Manassas office. She joined our team full time after graduating with a civil engineering degree from Virginia Tech and interning with us. With a focus on projects in the Northern Virginia region, she works with the traffic engineering team on new developments; retail, residential, mixed-use projects; and parking issues.

She is passionate about transportation, transportation planning, traffic operations, and how to make transportation systems more sustainable for the future.

Jake Tufts, EIT also graduated from Virginia Tech with a civil engineering degree. He joined our Tysons office full time and works on a range of projects, including parking, commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects in places such as Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Colorado.

Our paid internship program generally runs from mid-May to mid-August where interns gain experience working alongside our engineers and planners during a ±32-hour work week.
