This summer we were pleased to welcome back Sean Lyons, a civil engineer nearing completion of his engineering degree at George Mason University with a focus on transportation and construction.
Sean spent the summer of 2025 interning with our traffic engineering team, working on a variety of projects. Roadways, streets, and bike lanes are some of his interests when it comes to transportation.
We were pleased to get some insights from Sean now that his second stint with us is in the books.
W+A: Sean, how did this year’s summer internship work out for you?
Sean Lyons: It was great to finish my second internship with Wells and Associates this year. Time flies by so quickly when you are doing work that you enjoy. Comparing this summer’s internship and last year’s internship, I’ve noticed a few differences that made my time here all the better.
W+A: What were some of those differences?
Sean: One key difference is that some of the projects I participated in the year before are still in the works, so I was able to immediately hop back on to continue my work there.
W+A: That’s great to hear. So, the investment you put into projects last year had value once you started this year. Did any particular projects stand out for you?
Sean: Yes. I had the opportunity to work on Georgetown University projects. My sister attends this school, and just being able to say, “Hey, I worked on this project” to her is such a cool feeling. This also applies to other projects, but Georgetown is one of the top.
W+A: Have you seen any other benefits from completing your second year with us?
Sean: One thing that stood out was that this year I was able to do site visits alone. Of the site visits I have done so far, my favorite has to have been the visit to Catholic University’s Campus.
